Sports' Expectations

Teal Divider Line

I.  Coaches Responsibilities:

A.  Uphold the philosophy of St. Agnes School, the athletic policy, the rules of the Springfield Catholic Athletic Association (S.C.A.A.) and the Illinois Elementary Association (I.E.S.A.)
B. Personally keep the athletic director informed regarding personnel, schedules, events, discipline, and other matters which affect the athletic program.
C. Participate in Protect God's Children, conducted by the Springfield Diocese.
D. Sign a form which state that you have had no involvement with any kind of sexual abuse, and that St. Agnes is free to do a background check, if necessary.
E. Required to attend an inservice for coaches and assistant coaches.
F. Coaches make the following decisions:

1. The team' s style of play
2. The team lineup and length of play by team members
3. Team rules

II. Uniforms

A. Players will wear the sport uniform designated by the St. Agnes Athletic Department and will be worn for all games/matches/meets.
B. Players shall wear uniforms properly and as designed. Players are representing their school and community. (NFHS Rules' Book 2005).

III. Solutions to any problems:

A. Player talks to the coach.
B. Parent-player-coach meeting (meeting will only concern the player).
C. Athletic Director meets with player, parent coach, if problem is not resolved in previous meetings.
D. If problem still persists, the St. Agnes Principal will meet with the player, parent, coach, and athletic director to resolve the situation.

IV. Team Philosophy

A. Team comes first.
B. Those who put forth the effort and perform, will participate.
C. Each player is treated equally.

V. Player Responsibilities

A. Player must make the effort to be at all practices and games/matches/meets.
B. Player must contact coach when unable to attend practices or games/matches/meets
C. Player must respect oneself and others.
D. Player must maintain an average C- in each academic subject to stay eligible.
E. Players must leave any facility neat and clean, whether before or after practices, games, matches or meets, home or away.

VI. Transportation

A. Parents will provide car transportation for players.

1. Parents may be needed to transport some team members to the games/matches/meets
2. Team will be required to be at home and away softball/baseball games ( 45 minutes before away games and 75 minutes for home games), cross country/track (1 hour before meets), basketball ( 45 minutes before games). volleyball ( 30 minutes before matches).
3. Team works together to prepare field for home games (softball/baseball), prepare gym for home games/matches (basketball/volleyball), help at home or away meets (cross country /track).

VII. Parents' goals for the program

A. Focus on the players of the team, not just your child. Give the entire team your support
B. Allow 24 hours for any critique of the game/match/meet
C. Evaluate your child's performance, not his/her potential and ability
D. There is a fine line between involvement and interference.

1. Helping with the field before and after the game (softball/baseball).  Set up and clean up the gym after the game/match (basketball/volleyball), help when necessary (cross country/track).
2. Need to be a fan during the game/match/m'3et, not an extra coach
3. No talking to player in the dugout. behind the dugout. or during the game (softball/baseball), on the bench during game/match (basketball/volleyball)
4. No junk food or fast food during the game. Parents may provide healthy snacks and drinks.
5. Keep in mind your child's goals, his/her goals may be different than your goals.

E. Open practice is up to the discretion of the coach. Please ask. if you may watch. If viewing practices. please do not interfere with the coaches and/or players.
F. Please read all sports information given to parents and players to become familiar with the LE.S.A. and S.C.A.A.. rules.
G. Please pick up players at appropriate time from practice.

VIII. Sportsmanship

A. Positive behavior must be demonstrated by coaches. players, parents During practices and games/matches/meets.
B. Positive sportsmanship is required by all participants. coaches. team members. parents. and fans. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
C. Let's all work together to make this an enjoyable season for everyone.
