The following
articles appeared in the latest edition of the Spirit Magazine.
There
are many people who companion our children throughout each
school year. Recently, we hosted one of those special
groups - the grandparents of our children. Over 400
grandparents attended this early event of our school year.
Thank you, grandparents, for all the love and goodness you
share with your grandchildren. the smiling faces of
your grandchildren are proof of what you mean in their
lives. Thank you for the wonderful support of your
grandchildren and their school.
This newsletter
carries the names of all of those who were companions in the
education of Saint Agnes students during the 2006-2007
school year. At the end of that list is a financial
accounting of the gifts received in last year's Annual Fund.
Your gifts surpassed our goal of $60,000.00. Thank you
for your generosity. You have helped us improve many
of our areas of learning.
A song that our
children use at the All-School liturgies "We Are Companions
on the Journey" proclaims this message: "We have been gifted
with each other; and we are called by the Word of the Lord
to act with justice, to love tenderly, to walk humbly with
our God." Thank you for gifting us. Thank you for
sharing the journey of faith with our Saint Agnes children.
As companions, we walk the journey together - just as Jesus
walked with His friends. We thank God for the journey
behind us and for the journey ahead of us. We walk
with new companions and with the most important companion of
all - with Jesus.
Gratefully,
Sr. M. Joan Sorge,
O.P.

"And
it happened that while he was with them at table, he took bread, said
the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes
were opened and they recognized him whereupon he vanished form their
sight." Luke 24:31
The above
scriptural quote is from the famous Easter account of two disciples on
the road to Emmaus and the Risen Lord who appeared to them. Though
the disciples did not recognize Jesus at first, he accompanies the two
along the way. These disciples were companions of Jesus in his
earthly ministry; Jesus now becomes their companion along the way.
And it isn't until Jesus breaks bread with them - an early reference to
the Eucharist - that it finally dawns on these two disciples just who
this person is - the Risen Jesus in whom they had so many hopes.
The word
"companion" comes from the Latin words "cum panes" (bread with).
Companions along our journey are those we break bread with in the
everyday events of our lives. In this newsletter, we wish to give
thanks for those who have journeyed among us here at Saint Agnes School;
who have been genuine companions in revealing the presence of the Lord
about us; who have broke and shared the bread of Life with us.
Thanks so much for enriching our children and youth with your lives!
Blessings,
Fr. Bob
