General Information

What is School Counseling?

Working on behalf of students and their families, the counselor's primary goal is to ensure that every student in the school has the opportunity to experience school success. Counselors are particularly interested in the social and emotional needs of students that may be interfering with academic learning.

A school counselor's central role is to respond to and advocate for the emotional needs of students. Direct services are provided through individual counseling, support groups, and classroom guidance lessons.

The counselor is also available for the parents and staff of the school system providing assessment, consultation and referral services.
