Mass and Healing Service

On Friday, June 6, our parish will welcome Fr. Glenn Fontana for Mass and a Healing Service. Mass will begin at 5:30PM followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and a Healing Service. Father Fontana is a priest of the Diocese of Peoria and has been involved for a number of years in a healing ministry through a group called “Mary’s Helpers, Inc.” (maryshelpersinc@gmail.com). The theme of the Mass and Healing Service is “You Must Forgive: God’s Path to Healing.” The purpose of the Mass and service is to provide parishioners with an opportunity for the following:

*To provide a physical, emotional, spiritual or psychological healing
*To grow closer to the Lord Jesus
*To deepen the bonds of communion in the Catholic Church and to be more committed to doing the work the Lord has given them to do

To this end, several themes will be emphasized throughout the Mass and Healing Service: Conversion, Repentance, Commitment and Mission. Saint Agnes parishioners are welcome as are parishioners from parishes across Springfield and the surrounding area.

Catholic School Appeal

This past week parish households received from Bishop Lucas a letter and pledge card about the Catholic Schools Appeal. For 25 years there has been a special annual appeal for the Catholic high schools of Springfield. This year, the appeal is changed to include not only support of Sacred Heart-Griffin, but also the Catholic elementary schools here in town. A contribution to the Catholic Schools Appeal helps SHG and ourselves here at Saint Agnes.

Saint Agnes Parish Auction 2009Saint Agnes Parish Auction

An initial planning meeting for the 2009 Saint Agnes Auction will be held on Thursday, May 22, at 6PM, in the Parish Hall. The meeting is open to anyone and everyone who is interested in helping with next year's auction! This will be the only meeting we have of the entire group before we return to school next Fall, so if you have any issues or concerns that need addressed - either immediately or that some of the members of the auction committee could be working on during the summer - please bring those with you to the meeting on the 22nd. It is our intent to quickly run through every area of responsibility so that we can be thinking/planning/adjusting, etc., through the next few months. This way the team can hit the ground running come next September.

If you know anyone who may be interested (or willing) to get involved, please extend an invitation to attend. See you on the 22nd. For more info, call or email Joe Khayyat at 414-7887 or joekhayyat@yahoo.com.

A Letter from the Bishop Catholic Communication Campaign

Dear Friends in Christ, A Letter From The Bishop

The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC), in partnership with our diocesan communications office, has been the Church’s voice in the media: educating, entertaining, inspiring and informing the public about Gospel values. The Catholic Communication Campaign plays an important role in our Church and in society. It is supported solely through an annual parish collection that merits our continued support.

This year’s collection date is May 17-18. Half of your contribution to the Catholic Communication Campaign collection stays right here to support our own diocesan efforts. The remaining 50 percent supports the Catholic Communication Campaign’s national activities such as:

• Audio recordings of the daily readings from the New American Bible for online listening or podcast download
• The For Your Marriage campaign — television and radio public service announcements and a website designed to celebrate marriage and provide resources and support for those living this vocation
• The TV special, Picturing Mary, airing on many public television stations since December 2006
• Lenten radio retreats to enrich the spiritual journey of that season
•The expansion of CatholicCommunicationCampaign.org with information on TV and radio programs, streaming video, movie and TV reviews, interviews and inspiring stories of faith in action

I invite you to visit CatholicCommunicationCampaign.org and to explore all the materials available to you and your family. Your strong support will insure the continued availability of media resources that promote the Gospel and foster the pastoral teachings of the Catholic Church. I am grateful for your ongoing generosity.

Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend George J. Lucas
Bishop of Springfield in Illinois
