Welcome to a new school year and a growing band program!
This year is a continuation of a plan to build an
outstanding band program for our schools. The
potential is great and exciting!
Beginning Band will be
offered to 4th grade students and any older students who now
want to participate after seeing the great time we had last
year! Learning to play a musical instrument has been
scientifically proven to increase intelligence in children.
A great book for parents to read is "Good Music Brighter
Children" by Sharlene Habermeyer published by Prima (ISBN
0-7615-2150-X). On page 141 of his book an entry in a
chart reads: "Helps a child in reading and mathematics.
Stimulates creativity, imagination. Helps in leaning
foreign languages, memorization of facts, retention of
ideas. Children think more clearly and more critically
by studying a musical instrument.
"DO
YOU WANT THIS FOR YOUR CHILD?
ENROLL IN THE BAND PROGRAM!"
The students will be
given the opportunity to try out on various instruments
during school time. From this experience and from the
knowledge of Miss Wells, a suggestion will be made as to
what would be the best instrument for your child to play.
Most of the time this is the same as your child's choice,
but once in a while some factor may make it better to choose
a different instrument than you had originally planned.
There will be a
meeting for parents and their children to hear details of
the program, ask questions, and enroll. If you cannot
attend the meeting, feel free to call Miss Wells.
Tuesday, August 28th -
Saint Agnes Cafeteria - 6:30PM
Lessons will begin the
week of September 4th. Lessons will be determined
after enrollment is known. It will be scheduled
according to how many students there are and what
instruments they will play.
Let's
have a great year! |
