Catholic Schools Week 2008

PARENT LUNCH  - On Monday, January 28, parents are invited to come and eat lunch with their child(ren).  The menu for the day will be Walking Taco Bar, a chocolate chip bar and milk.  There will be three lunch shifts.  Grades K, 1, 2 will eat at 11:00 a.m.  Grades 3, 4, 5 will eat at 11:45 a.m.  Grades 6, 7, 8 will eat at 12:30 p.m.  Hot lunch is $2.25. 

In order to prepare enough meals, pre-orders with payment are required. Unfortunately walk-ins to eat our hot lunch can not be accepted this day.  Please complete the lunch order form attached to this newsletter and return it, with payment, to the school office by Thursday, January 17.

FAMILY PROJECT – ST. AGNES SPREADS GOD’S LIGHT - The youngest child of the family will be bringing home today either a Lighthouse or a Star Family project sheet.  Please glue a family picture on the sheet provided and feel free to personalize/decorate it.  All family project sheets will be displayed in the school during Catholic Schools Week.  The photos can not be returned as we will use them in a St. Agnes Family book after they are displayed.  Please turn in completed family projects by Tuesday, January 22.  Thank you for spreading the light!

Saturday, January 26 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Parish

  •  St. Agnes School families will assume service and leadership roles at the 4:30 p.m.  Mass…lectors, greeters, presenters of gifts, readers…eighth grade students will speak at Mass about the “Light” of Catholic Education.

  • Special collection in appreciation of the teachers in our Parish School.

Sunday, January 27 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Parish

  • St. Agnes School families will assume service and leadership roles at all Masses...lectors, greeters, presenters of gifts, readers…eighth grade students will speak about the “Light” of Catholic Education.

  • Special collection in appreciation of the teachers in our Parish School.

  • Open House in the School after all Masses on Sunday (9:00 a.m. 1:30 p.m.)Coffee, juice and donuts will be served by the Parents Club.

  • Parish Auction items prepared by classes will be on display this week.

  • Family project posters will be displayed in the school halls.

  • Volleyball games between faculties of all Catholic Schools at the SHG West Campus. Games begin at 3:00 p.m.  Each set of teams will be playing one game.  Families are invited to come and cheer on our faculty and staff.

Monday, January 28 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Community

  • Classrooms will be open for visitors (8:30 a.m. until after each lunch period ends).

  • Invitation to City Officials, Bishop Lucas and the Catholic Education Office Staff. 

  • Parents are invited to have a walking taco lunch with their children.  Lunch shifts begin (11:00 a.m. – Grades K, 1, 2; 11:45 a.m. – Grades 3, 4, 5; 12:30 p.m. – Grades 6, 7, 8). 

  • Each family will receive a candle to take home and burn throughout the week to pray for all St. Agnes School families.

Tuesday, January 29 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Students

  • Student Appreciation Day 

  • Dress Down Day for students – Student Council will choose a theme for each class for non-uniform day. 

  • No homework or tests for students. 

  • Assembly for students (10:00 a.m.). 

  • Parents Club will serve pizza lunch and student gift. 

  • School treat in the afternoon. 

  • Spelling Bee for Grades 5-8 in the gym (1:30 p.m.).

Wednesday, January 30 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Nation

  • Prayer Service for Peace in the gym (10:00 a.m.). 

  • Dress Down Day – Students are asked to wear red, white and blue. 

  • Student Council Contest – patriotic pictures (coloring for PreK-3; drawing for 4-8). 

  • Primary Read-In in the afternoon – teachers will change classrooms and read to students. 

  • Parents Club Fitness Night for families – presented by Colleen Cavanagh.

Thursday, January 31 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Vocations

  • Invitation to Dominican Sisters and Mexican Sisters to attend 8:15 a.m. Mass.

  • Refreshments for religious in the Library after Mass and invitation to visit classrooms.   

  • Sr. Lori will present to Grades 4-8 throughout the day in the Art Room  

  • Fr. Peter from the Dominican Motherhouse and Fr. Bob will speak to individual classrooms about life of a priest. 

  • Classes will write to Missionaries and the St. Agnes Sister Parish – names and addresses will be given to classes.

Friday, February 1 - Catholic Schools Light the Way: In Our Faculty and Staff

  • Teacher and Staff Appreciation Day 

  • Dress Down Day for Teachers and Staff. 

  • Break for teachers during the day. 

  • Assembly conducted by the Student Council for the staff (10:00 a.m.) 

  • Lunch to honor our teachers and staff. 

  • Read-In for Grades 3-8 in the school (4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
